It seems like "If it ain't broke; don't fix it" has two opposing interpretations:
  1. If something works, you shouldn't re-engineer it from the ground up just for the sake of making its insides more elegant.
  2. If something works, then don't bother to use the thing it replaced, even if that thing worked.
